# 04 · Case Studies — thirteen serials, and what each one taught

**Guide v3.0 · Law revision v5.4 · updated 2026-10-13.** Every law in [`01`](01_the_laws.md) was paid for by one of these projects. Numbers are measured, not remembered — the shelf and register counts are as of 2026-10-13.

## 1 · The Grey Wolf — the gold standard (SL2)

**10 chapters · 25,792 words · panel v5.4.3 Canon-Strict · F0–F26 locks · run_all 4 steps PASS · 10 chapters IN SYNC.**

OC Ye Cang — an Earth mind reborn beside Huo Yuhao, innate rank 1, a Grey Wolf soul and a ledger system — written at the level the whole workshop now aims at. This is the serial that produced the perfect-rebuild protocol (F6) and the clean-and-clear prose law in its present, measurable form.

**The rejection that built the standard.** A draft chapter (Ch6) averaged **6.8 words per sentence** (median 5), repeated "100% evolving High" in nearly every sentence, and repeated the same four canon phrases ten times. The author rejected it in one line — *clean and clear, no nonsense repetition* — and stopped the serial for a rebuild. What the rebuild required, mechanically: natural prose **avg 14–18**, chapter band **2,400–3,400**, **0** over-60 sentences, **0** "the-way", **0** bare fragments, no repetitive skill lists in the body — mastery shown by daily-life action, lore kept to the footer, **the-way ban**, `tar` not `rsync`, identity re-exported every shell.

**What the ten shipped chapters look like** (the receipt): every chapter inside the band; the panel's 80-row ledger IN SYNC; the locks F0–F26 applied; daily-life chapters with **0 panel lines** by rule (F22) — the story *is* the training, not a printout of it.

**The lesson:** clean-and-clear is not a mood; it is a **band plus caps plus two bans**, and it rebuilt a serial that looked dead.

## 2 · The Adaptive Prodigy — the system's birthplace (SL3 · OC Lin Hao)

**116 chapters · 523,356 words · ten-layer gate, ALL GREEN.**

The serial that built the original machinery: a ten-layer verification suite, the deterministic scope-line tracker, and — from a real mess — the **two-copies law** (*one copy of one thing*): a retired mirror staleness layer now **fails the build if a second copy of a text reappears**. Later consolidated into the kit as the workshop's largest single book (and the register's heaviest row).

**The lesson:** gates are grown, not adopted — every layer of this suite exists because something specific escaped the layer before it.

## 3 · Fire Phoenix — the five-copies disaster (SL4 · OC Yan Shuo)

**52 chapters · 270,659 words · per-chapter validation + support sync.**

The serial whose text once existed in **five copies** across the account — all of them drifting. The cleanup produced the pacing law (**compress the routine, expand the butterfly**) and the natural institutional-consequence rule: when a change lands, the world reacts on the page — institutions, prices, people — not just the protagonist. Its later arc added the **late-arc V2 staging** (candidates kept, promotion to public numbering awaiting the author's ruling) and the version-law caution — *staged is not shipped*.

**The lesson:** duplication is not redundancy, it is a fork — and every fork diverges. One copy, or none of them is true.

## 4 · Devouring Dragon — plain language, panel re-bind (SL1+1000y)

**24 chapters · 65,081 words · 8-tool battery, sentinel 26 PASS.**

A beast-voice serial 1,000 years after the first *Soul Land* book, written in a **plain register** (its own wordlist check enforces it) with three lessons the workshop kept:

- **Panel re-bind (s45):** the player panels were re-bound so the **story is the beast's**; an experiment ran whole chapters at **0% panels** — proving narrative could carry the state without the printout (the root of F22).
- **Scope (s39):** write once — a scene written twice costs both versions.
- **Pacing (s44):** sameness is skipped, not narrated; the butterfly is where the detail goes.
- **Canon-voice rollout:** chapters 1–12 retold through three adaptation lenses (s53/s54/s56), receipts first.

**The lesson:** a serial's *register* is a law like any other — measurable, named, and checkable.

## 5 · The Unraveled Tide — the multi-panel law's home (SL2 · OC Jiang Che)

**24 chapters · 80,127 words · run_all battery.**

The serial where the **multi-panel law** was born: several state panels (not one) coordinating a story whose viewpoints genuinely separate, with the panel ledger keeping them from contradicting each other. Its 2026-10-11 sentence repair (a passed round of long-sentence splitting) is part of the shelf's provenance record.

**The lesson:** panels multiply with viewpoints — the discipline is that *every* panel answers to one authority when they disagree.

## 6 · Lan Shen — dual-track canon-parallel (SL3)

**7 chapters (V2 epoch) · 32,211 words · nine layers, ALL GREEN.**

A reincarnator in Glorybound City, two doors from Tang Wulin — and the serial that produced **Dual-Track** (canon runs complete and unskipped in Wulin's own close-third; the OC lives parallel on the same clock; butterflies only where the tracks touch on the page) and the **knowledge-firewall** system (what the OC knows, and when).

Its V1 epoch (15 chapters) was retired for violating the doctrine — and the retirement left receipts: V1's chapters one to four had staged canon partly by **transcribing the translation's dialogue** — 785 verbatim canon words, 297 in one chapter — while the copy check passed, because its threshold sat above every borrowed run. Forty-two passages were re-voiced, the threshold was **rebuilt from corpus evidence**, and the defect became a permanent regression test. V1's files survive in the kit's history, exactly.

Also the home of the workshop's highest-yield single check: **date arithmetic** — every "N days ago / N days later" in a chapter is recomputed by hand against the day map. It caught nine month-count errors in one chapter alone.

**The lesson:** a gate's *threshold is a claim too* — and the only trustworthy fix is more measurement, not more faith.

## 7 · One in a Thousand — the OC as the actor (SL3 · OC Su Yan)

**7 chapters · 63,691 words · gate PASS.**

A boy of Tang Wulin's year with a father who is the city's healer — and the serial where the author's correction *"entire chapter mostly canon, there is nothing OC"* became law: **the OC is the actor** (his own prime law); canon is shown complete but **told tight (≤ half the words)**; the reaction test; failure states; the voice target 8–10. Its operating set wrote down what most serials improvise: exact numbers, live ledgers, no fiat leaps (**R14**); the butterfly protocol with a ledger where every cause is born with its open obligation (**R15**); the whole-existence law (**R16**); the meaning law — no term without its canon-checked meaning, work, and effects (**R17**); and the house at its right scale — money told honestly (**FAMILY_AND_HOUSE**, from the author's own correction).

**The lesson:** "canon on the page" and "the OC is the protagonist" are compatible — but only with a word budget and an actor's role written down.

## 8 · Stark Heir — film order and the camera law (MCU · OC Mark Stark)

**5 chapters · 27,673 words · mcu_verify 8 gates PASS · zero-digit, zero-CJK.**

Tony Stark's son, told in MCU **film order** — canon consumed beat by beat (Iron Man 1: ambush → cave → return → workshop rebirth → gala → the Gulmira sortie → the jet intercept → the Raza camp → the Malibu injunction), staged scene-by-scene with **plural canon-side panels**, the **camera going where canon goes** (P12 + amendment), every canon touch registered in the **T-registry**, and the Talent law applied: *never replace canon — deny ACCESS, not competence*; the OC's gift lives **embodied, never named**.

**The lesson:** for film fandoms, "canon-true" means camera-true — and a registry of every touch keeps plural panels honest.

## 9 · MCU Eternal — Varun (MCU · post-Blip)

**3 chapters · 9,212 words · mcu_verify 8 gates PASS · paused.**

The eleventh Eternal — gravity and kinetic command, an **Adaptation Talent that is never named**, a buffer and field ceilings that are hard law (*never replace, never nerf*), a chronological MCU with an explicit **forbidden-now list** (no character or event before its film-time), the true mission shape held until Arc 5, and the Sersi/Uni-Mind center and the Ajak-first romance lock kept on rails. Its craft receipts: HOLD-BUBBLE (three breaths — bleed law on sand) and ANCHOR-FEET (three breaths — catch on self; the shell-bead pair).

**The lesson:** a power that is never explained needs *more* structure, not less — ceilings, lists, and anchors instead of exposition.

## 10 · The Golden Lion — agent-driven near-daily (SL2 · OC Jin Yang)

**8 chapters · 22,487 words · sl2-goldenv 8 PASS.**

A village-born boy with a Golden Lion soul and a womb-born Adaptation Talent, walking toward Shrek Academy — **launched in one gated day** and advanced near-daily with the agent driving between rulings, which only works because the panel is the truth and **possession is carded**: base-form card, stack order, ring-orbit exposure (the panel's v4→v5 revision). Its other gift to the method: the **author-strike pattern** — the author corrects; the correction is applied cheaply because nothing depends on the old version.

**The lesson:** near-daily shipping is a state-discipline test, not a speed test.

## 11 · Blue Silver — parked, and proud of it (pre-canon, Book One)

**15 chapters · 34,711 words · seven-gate maturity · parked (Book One complete).**

A Blue Silver Emperor grass named *Home*; 775 years; one law — he never kills — with a **kill count of zero** across a completed Book One, behind a seven-gate maturity ladder. Parked by the author's ruling, its files archived under the park with its receipts, Book Two awaiting rulings.

**The lesson:** *small and gated* coexist; a parked serial with clean receipts is worth more than a live one with murky state — and "parked" is a status, not a failure.

## 12 · Supergirl — Adrian Vale — when the voice is the author's call (DC TV)

**17 chapters · 61,986 words · CI gates armed on every push.**

An OC hybrid Kryptonian/Daxamite, self-sealed to human level, working at Cat Grant's desk while the show's first season runs. Two receipts matter to this guide:

- **The padding removal.** Chapters 9–14 carried 7,702 repeated words — one closing paragraph twenty times in a row. Removed — and the serial's verifier then failed with six `ACCEPTED_HASH` errors, **and that failure is true**: accepted text changed, so the acceptance went stale. No receipt or hash was rewritten to hide it. The desk carried the ruling (new receipts, or revert) to the author.
- **The 70-sentence ruling.** Seventy remaining long sentences sit in this serial's compressed beat style end to end, and fewer than half have any punctuation a split could use. Standing treatment: **this is a serial's compressed voice, and the author rules on voice** — the 60-word law is not mechanically applied over a living style. That restraint is part of the method: know which law is mechanical and which law has an owner.

**The lesson:** gates tell the truth even when the truth is inconvenient — and a method honest about its exceptions is stronger than one that pretends to have none.

## 13 · Dragon Prince Yuan — a false FAIL is worth ten false PASSes

**1 chapter · 3,706 words · gate PASS.**

A native OC with natural butterflies in *Yuan Zun*'s world. Its study value is one incident: a chapter was failed by a scanner whose check had **hard-coded filenames from another project** — a false FAIL. The fix made the check generic, and the incident became the workshop's rule of thumb: *a check that fails wrongly is a gift — it teaches you the check was never general; a check that passes wrongly teaches you nothing, forever.*

## 14 · The SL3 foundation study — ten craft laws from a master text

Craft extraction, 2026-09-07, at the author's direction: the author's own SL3 serial, chapters 1–5, read end to end as a model — its craft distilled, its canon/OC/world quarantined (reference only, never imported as story). The extraction document was consolidated out in the 2026-10-12 one-copy pass; its live home is the kit's `lan_shen/foundation/STYLE_LAW.md` §2/§4/§6, and the original is retrievable from the kit's history (`f33cc19`).

**The ten craft laws:**

1. The OC is never a watcher across a whole chapter — observer moments are half-beats, never a chapter's spine (machine-enforced downstream: the style gate fails a chapter whose protagonist speaks fewer than four times).
2. Talent is embodied, never named — counting, reading a notice, cups on a sill. No system voice; no narrator explaining what the gift means.
3. World rules arrive as **priced experience** — delivered through a character who pays for the knowledge. Not stated. Costed.
4. Choice > trait — every chapter gives the protagonist a decision with a consequence and a stated butterfly.
5. Secondary cast have real interior — a character who appears for one chapter may still get an origin.
6. Withholding is a tool — name the big thing and hold it back so its first use matters.
7. Friendship is mutual and equal — the canon lead is not worshipped at a distance.
8. Theme is earned in scenes, not declared — nobody delivers the thesis in a speech.
9. Chapters end in shared warmth or forward motion, not solitude.
10. Bookkeeping stays tight — and stays out of the chapter file entirely (the apparatus law).

**And the warning seen in the model itself:** the reference's own early footers leaked end-of-serial state — a "three purple rings" line in chapter one, when the character is six with no rings. **Centralized current state plus a tight per-chapter state line is the medicine; never embed end-state boilerplate in early chapters.**

## 15 · The Adaptation Talent — one original system, seventeen holders (five worlds)

**One locked core (76 sections) · 17 holders · 5 worlds · [`adaptation-talent`](https://github.com/gm5206663-bit/adaptation-talent): 56 files, hash-manifested, CI on every push.**

The account's one original system — a non-sentient adaptive principle that refines, integrates, and personalizes a holder's complete being, never a voice and never a power in itself — run across **seventeen holders in five worlds**: eleven Soul Land serials, two MCU, Avengers, two Naagin projects, and Dragon Prince Yuan. Its case value is the problem no single serial has: **one system that must stay one system in universes it was never written for.**

The answer, built and published 2026-10-13: a locked 76-section master core, one module per holder beneath it (the seven-part module template, §71), and the rule that makes it hold — **a module never rewrites the core**; a universal change requires an explicit amendment (§76, the amendment rule). Every module quotes its author rulings verbatim, so the author's word travels inside the files that depend on it.

The receipt is the same one this guide teaches everywhere else. The core was found living as **three byte-identical twins** across the account; the published repository keeps **one** — and records the other two, with hashes, in its provenance file. Canon, modules, and the writing law sit in that one repository, whose push-time CI verifies every file against a hash manifest and sweeps every relative link — *the text and its receipts cannot drift apart silently* (death #5, structurally impossible).

**The lesson:** a shared system survives seventeen holders the way a text survives revision — one home per fact, a hash manifest, and a gate that fails the moment anything moves without its receipt.
